Plum Noir
Burgundy with a swirl of velvet brown — the deepest shade in this year’s palette, and the one that carries a hand from October to February.
Plum Noir is the deepest shade in this year's palette — burgundy with a swirl of velvet brown behind it, closer to a wine reduction than a berry. It reads almost black at arm's length and unmistakably purple in daylight, which is exactly why it works from October through to February.
Why it works now
The quiet, milky manicures that carried the summer leave a gap once the light drops. A saturated dark fills it without tipping into the flat black that dominated a few winters ago. Plum keeps warmth in the hand.
How to wear it
Two thin coats on a short almond or squoval shape. Glossy rather than matte — the depth of the colour is the point, and a matte top coat flattens it. On longer nails, a single accent in chrome over the same base picks up the brown undertone.
Who it suits
Everyone, which is unusual for a dark. Cool skin tones get the burgundy; warm tones pull the brown forward. If you are unsure, hold it against the inside of your wrist in daylight rather than under salon lighting.
